SPT Events & Activities

On this page you will find details of SPT activities in support of Homecoming Scotland 2009. More events will be added as the year progresses.

SPT is supporting Homecoming Scotland 2009 in a number of ways:

  • Wall plaques displaying Burns verse will be in some Subway and bus stations.
  • We have created a special SPT tartan and have had it made into ties and cravats for our customer service officers to wear during this homecoming year. These were created by a family-owned tie-making business in Dalmarnock which has served Glasgow for more than 50 years.
  • A poetry competition run by Subway poet-in-residence John Rice will encourage school children local to Subway stations to write and illustrate their own verse.
  • Children will also be able to participate in school poetry workshops, where they can discuss the work of Robert Burns.
  • An Ayr to Glasgow Stagecoach bus will be vinyl-wrapped with Burns verse and a Homecoming Scotland 2009 message.
  • A Subway train will also be vinyl-wrapped with a special Warhol-inspired Burns design promoting the exhibition 'Inspired' which is a collection of contemporary works of Burns being exhibited at the Mitchell Library from April to September this year.

SPT's Subway Poet-in-Residence John Rice will in Ayr over the weekend of 24-25 January, running workshops for families and holding poetry readings.
